The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay reached its final destination with the lighting of the flame at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies on February 12, 2010. Over the course of this 106-day adventure, the torch made a historic 45,000 kilometer journey across Canada, the longest domestic relay in Olympic history.
The Torch Relay Security Team (TRuST) was comprised of police members from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and law enforcement partners from 23 other Canadian police agencies. Its mandate of ensuring the safety and security of the 12,000 torchbearers, the integrity of the Flame and the Torch was successfully completed.
It would not have been possible without the support of all of the police officers who joined the team as it travelled across the country, or without the dedication of the local police in every community visited.
The team members have been inspired by the enthusiasm of Canadians who lined the route from coast to coast to coast. All have fond memories of the excitement the Relay created, the communities they would never have otherwise had the opportunity to visit, and the hundreds of thousands of people who caught the Olympic fever as they passed by.
